Edwin Land founded Polaroid in 1937 to make polarising filters. In 1947 he showed a camera that developed its own picture in about a minute, and the Model 95 went on sale in 1948.

The 1972 SX-70 made pictures that developed in your hand. Digital cameras took away Polaroid’s market, and after bankruptcies in 2001 and 2008 it stopped making instant film. The Impossible Project bought its last film factory.
