KMZ (Zenit)

Founded 1942

The Krasnogorsk Mechanical Plant near Moscow began making optics in 1942. After the war it built the Zorki rangefinders, based on the Leica, and from 1952 the Zenit single-lens reflexes. Millions of Zenits were made, many exported cheaply to the West.
