Fujifilm
Founded 1934
Fuji Photo Film was founded in 1934 to make film in Japan. It became Kodak’s main rival, and its Velvia slide film (1990) became a landscape photographers’ standard.
Unlike Kodak, it spread into other businesses early, which helped it survive the decline of film. Its X100 (2011) and X-series cameras brought back dials and film-like colour, the GFX line (2017) made larger-than-full-frame sensors affordable, and Instax instant film sells in the millions.
