Agfa
Founded 1867 · left photography 2005
Agfa began in Berlin in 1867 as a maker of aniline dyes. It turned to photographic chemicals and film from the 1890s.
In 1936 it launched Agfacolor Neu, a colour film with the dye couplers built into the layers. That made colour film simpler to process than Kodachrome and became the basis of most later colour films. Agfa merged with Belgium’s Gevaert in 1964.
